Introduction

Clermont Foot 63 FC is a professional club that was in Ligue 1 in France at the time of the case study. 

They were manually tagging match videos for analysis and talent identification, a slow and labour-intensive exercise.  

The club had a set number of hours a week in which to analyze due to limited resources and this restricted the club to reviewing a small number of matches, limiting the effectiveness of the exercise. 

The club was restricted in their capacity to tap into other player markets for talent as it could not analyze sufficient matches. Their challenge was how to analyze more matches in the same number of hours.

The work carried out

The club had an established philosophy and blueprint of how it identifies talent, albeit in its manual process. 

With TALNETS AG, we were able to overlay Clermont Foot’s blueprint by way of custom analytics for each position, in essence matching TALNETS AG’s AI solution to the way that the club does its talent identification. 

Instead of manually tagging and analyzing players, Clermont Foot was able to upload their videos into the platform which would run analysis on relevant actions per position and create individual digital player profile cards with statistics and highlight reels for each player.

Implementation

The work was handled remotely with TALNETS AG analysts and the Clermont Foot academy team having weekly meetings, where we went through the previous matches, analyzed and identified key areas of optimisation as well and presented data for analysis.

This meant professional data collection and analysis without stretching the club’s internal resources and the ability to quickly assess their academy players and optimise their budget.

Outcomes

Through the use of the TALNETS AG platform, Clermont Foot was able to increase the number of matches they analyzed per week, while also clearing a backlog from the previous seasons. 

The club was also able to identify gaps within their academy set-up to hire data scientists who can augment and utilize the TALNETS AG platform’s capabilities. 

As the club was now familiar with the platform in providing objective player analysis, the academy requested TALNETS AG help scout for specific positions that they are looking to fill for the 2024/25 season from our African partners.

We were able to identify several footballers that match the criteria of what Clermont Foot looks for in their player analysis and recommended these players.
